Hi Joanne, you captured the 'showroom' feel for me as well. I was instantly reminded of my own experience shopping for coaches with my mom when I was a child. I liked how you incorporated some couch 'lingo' into your piece (the micro-fibre), it gave your voice the authority of a seasoned couch shopper!

I'd love to hear you continue to explore your quest for the perfect couch--I think its a struggle a lot of people can relate to. I wonder, what for you is the most challenging part of the experience?

Hi Joanne,

What an enjoyable read! Your description makes it easy for me to picture you sinking into the taffy colored micro-fibre, and your mother sitting like Goldilocks in the "too big" sofa, looking like a little girl. It sounds like this was a fun shopping trip for the two of you.

I wonder what the color, texture and look of the 'just right' sofa you choose will be.

Hi Joanne,

Sorry for taking so long to leave a comment for you -- I thought I had left one a while ago, but I must not have done it correctly.

Your descriptions of the feelings and sounds you experienced while sitting in the lawn chair had me longing for a warm week-end so that I could put myself in your place. I especially liked the sentence "Whoosh...the sound of much bigger wings flapping the air..." I could almost feel the breeze from those wings!

Hi, a really nice piece--it took me right to the back porch with you, which sounds and looks a lot different than the rainy urban landscape outside my window. It also reminded me of how many sounds there are around us at any moment--thank you for that.

As well, the 'delicate paper fans' comparison was delicious--original and poignant.

Hi Joanne,

Reading your piece made me long for warmer days, the feel of the earth, and the beauty of the flowers that are yet to bloom in my garden that's still in slumber. I especially liked your description of the peonies, and can just see how heavy and droopy they are!

Your account of how you felt about the garden at the different stages of your life was great. The description of your visit to Las Vegas and the contrast between that and the garden was very striking, and I could imagine myself standing with you in that garden, totally at peace and enjoying the beauty of the garden and of nature.

I'm curious to know whether you will add to the plantings in the garden in the years to come.

I look forward to reading your future posts.
